Cromwell, Iceni and Leics & Rutland
Inter Regional Team 2009
This is a great competition which involves riders at all levels, is fantastic fun and a brilliant way to learn more about the sport of endurance and make friends at the same time. Ask anyone who’s been before.
The rules for this year have not yet been finalised but we shall be looking for Novice, Intermediate and Advanced riders and horses to compete in distances from 30km - 100km. Juniors, Young Riders and Veterans all have the opportunity to compete. It truly is for everyone, usually there are 15 on the Team.
This years competition will held on the 8th/9th August at the Ridgeway Barbury Castle Ride, Nr Marlborough, Wilts. This is a lovely ride over undulating downland with minimal roadwork.

Inter-Regional Team Championships-Origins of the competition
Aims and objectives
1] To produce teams with a balanced cross section of all members and participants from within the regions
2] To encourage participation from all ages and levels of experience
3] To produce a true Championship which will be a Major Event in the calendar.
Proposals and reasoning
The event should take place over two days,Endurance rides on the first day and CR’s on the second [ so that Team members can support each other and learn from the more experienced.]
.
This event will give riders at all levels experience within the Team environment giving them an insight into the world of competitive Endurance Riding within a protected, secure competition where they can benefit from the support and encouragement of the Chef D/Equipe and the more experienced Team members
The Inter-Regional Championship also provides an opportunity for Selectors and Chef to see up and coming talent that can be encouraged to progress to Home International and eventually International Teams.
The Competition :- this has been modified over the years but the general format is shown below.
A team competition that includes juniors/young riders at all levels
Participating Regions
1.Wessex
2.Scotland, North & East Yorkshire, Cumbria, Durham & Cleveland and Northumberland & Teeside.
3.Cromwell, Leicestershire & Rutland and Iceni.
4.Lindum, Nottinghamshire and West Riding.
5.Offa’s Dyke, Mid-Wales and South & West Wales
6.South East. Mid-South
7.South West.
8.Cheshire, Derbyshire and Lancashire.
9.Cotswolds & Heart of England.
New Proposal -The Teams from each region will be required to complete 800km[ with the existing format they compete over 1000km]: -
Each team must field
2 x Endurance Riders [Advanced level combinations]
2/ 3 x Junior or Young Rider [ Level to be at regions discretion]
2 x40km CR Novice riders
The remaining460 /560 Km can be completed by a combination of riders selected at the discretion of each region
e.g. In addition to 2x 80km ER riders and 2x Novice 40km riders you could have ----2more 80km riders, 4x 65km riders, 2x50km and another 40km rider[totalling 800km]
All scores will count towards the main Championship. There will be an award for the highest number of points scored by a regions’ YR
Eligibility:
1The Endurance Rides will be run under EGB rules and are open to all Advanced riders and horses.
2The CR Rides will be run under EGB rules:
Scoring:
The scoring will need some ‘tweaking’ but will remain essentially the same so that all scores count for those who complete their ride successfully . All CR’s will be scored using the performance formula
This method rewards every member of a team relative to their own achievement and to that of other team members.
